  Having left a Freeview box for repair and having paid an up-front charge of £20 with a promise that we would get a call when it was ready, we waited and waited and eventually, three months later, we called into the shop. We were told that we had been called about the repair. This was clearly not true because either my wife or I would have remembered receiving such a call. Further investigation reveals that the call was in likely to be an unintelligable voice-text received at around 4am and picked up by our answering service a few week earlier but we had no clue as to where it originated. When questioned about who he has spoken to, the man in the shop said that he couldn't remember. Suspicions were aroused and we had a distinct impression that this was probably a scam. When our Freeview box was eventually recovered from a pile of what appeared to be other unclaimed items - no doubt the property of owners waiting from a call - we were told that the fault wasn't worth repairing and that it was the 'power supply'. The fault for which it was sent for repair was an intermittent lack of response from the remote control. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the power supply or the general function of the device. Incidentally, the unit had the case securing screws taped to the case and no attempt made to reassemble it which is the least one might expect for £20 paid in advance. The conclusion is that the proprietor is charging £20 in advance, ostensibly to evaluate or repair items with the balance being payable on completion but knowing in advance that no repair would be carried out. To state that the fault is due to a non-functioning power supply when the unit actually works but does not respond to the remote control merely confirms my suspicions. I would not recommend this trader under any circumstances.
